The School

Every Child Counts: Every Child Contributes

The Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School caters for some 90 children and has good links with the church, using St Andrew’s for some school services.  However, very few children or their parents attend church regularly.  A small group of church members run “Open the Book” through the school year, with all classes attending.

The present school was built in 1977 and is set in extensive grounds overlooked by the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. The headteacher, Sarah Peel, is supported by four teachers and three classroom assistants.  There is a strong team of Governors, including two Foundation Governors.  The Priest-in-Charge is, ex officio, one of those two.

Within the school grounds there is an independent pre-school catering for children from two and a half years of age.  Children come from a wide area, north as far as Malham.

At age 11, children travel to secondary schools in either Skipton, Threshfield or Settle.
